Interesting Take on Sustainable Cities

In my search for people who believe that all businesses, and even all mankind, can be 100% sustainable, I have come across many interesting and innovative ideas. The first creative piece I found came from greenmillennium.eu where they believe that cities are built unsustainable simply because they are circular. Building our cities in a circular way creates a small perimeter around them, and this makes less room for farming… here Ill let the experts explain.

Please compare the 2 figures below that have roughly the same area but vastly different perimeters—-

These differences are compounded when you stack the circles on top of each other, which is superb in the views and sense of power that it creates, but poor when all its inhabitants must walk into fields to grow their own crops because there is no more petroleum to produce the food and bring it to where people can eat it! Please consider too that all of our cities are circular, not linear, forms that give few people access to fields to grow crops.”

Here is what our cities would look like:

So, Green Millennium believes we should start over with city building, but that isn’t actually plausible, but the idea is innovative which is what we need more of. I say good for them and keep up the creativity.
