Optimism – Do You Have It?

Most people would like to consider themselves optimistic. If you ask someone if the glass is half empty, most people would respond with “No, it is half full.” This is because everyone knows that question is about optimism, but optimism is not calculated responses, it is something automatic. It either lives inside you and is an integral part of your personality, or it isn’t, it’s that simple. If you tell someone their house is on fire and their immediate response is “Don’t worry I have insurance, and it’s been years since I’ve had a smore anyway.” then that person is incredibly, and undeniably optimistic.

But what if you’re scared that you’re not optimistic, and that that might hurt your future in some way? And, does even thinking that question make you pessimistic? I have gone in circles with this for hours, to no avail. I feel like I am a happy person though. I often think about how lucky I am to have friends and family who love me, but that doesn’t give me a positive nature all the time. Sometimes I am depressed. Sometimes I am angry. Sometimes I just don’t give a shit. But does this make me not optimistic? Where is the line? Where is the optimism test that shows me where this line is, and on what side of it I am on?

When I do think about it I usually come to the conclusion that to be “optimistic,” you simply have to think about your own future. When I think about my future I am uncertain, and even scared of what could, or could not be. But, I know that whatever happens I will keep fighting my battles and pushing toward constant success. This is my optimism, and it reminds me why I wake up, and put on my shoes, every morning. I guess that is good enough for me.
